S: The owner is Japanese
To be honest, it came to me as a surprise to see so many scathing review of this place despite having been here for more than 2 years. In my opinion, this place deserves more than an 8. I’ve been to Japan as well as many fancy restaurants so I know what’s good and what’s not.
In terms of the food quality, this place ticks all the boxes. Come on, the color of the sashimi looks vibrant and they have this very addictive green tea tofu dessert. On the top of that, there is this killer tofu salad that is guaranteed to get you hooked. And their lunch sets are very filling.
It goes without saying that you get what you paid for. That’s true in Ebisu’s case. Admittedly, you are to pay a lot but still, quality comes first. So if you are to pay thr minimal in a Japanese restaurants, chances are it’s not authentic. And I’ve had my fair share of that experience myself a number of times.
I don’t really understand how people come here and say that the waiters do not know manners and were turned a blind eye. As I’ve said before, I have been a regular for more than 2 years; hence, I have eaten here on almost every day of the week. I am certainly not a foreigner myself and am served by different waitresses every time I come here. Still food arrives very quickly and the waitresses are very responsive to our orders, even if the place is crowded. The waitresses do not look at me as if I were the biggest annoyance to walk the Earth so the bad things people say about this place is a bit exaggerated.
The overall ambience is very similar to that of restaurants in Japanese. Everything is a bit dark, you can expect the place to be dimly lit and they allow smokers. You can request to be in the nonsmoking region of you wish. A lot of Japanese come and dine here so that’s the sign of a good Japanese restaurant.
